In China this weekend, Elon Musk snagged the biggest green light yet for Full Self-Driving mode, the advanced software that Tesla claims equips its EVs to drive themselves almost anywhere with minimal human intervention. Tesla’s market performance has been underwhelming lately, and news of a major deal to offer autonomous driving in Earth’s largest and most competitive EV market (equal to about 60% globally) could help Musk win shareholder approval for his controversial $56 billion pay package that was nullified in January by a Delaware court that declared the sum “unfathomable.” Both China and Tesla came to the table with…

CNBC’s Jim Cramer was wary of Apple’s stock rally, which he said was spurred by an analyst upgrade. He said the gains may not last, and investors should wait to buy. On Monday, Bernstein’s Toni Sacconaghi upgraded Apple shars from neutral to buy and said it’s time to “buy the fear.” Sacconaghi suggested the stock was too cheap, saying it’s set up for a “strong iPhone 16 cycle” and that its weakness in China is “more cyclical than structural.” “Unlike Toni, I want you to own Apple, not trade it, even as I suspect this quarter will be weak…

Hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide Elon Musk—because no one is safe from AI deepfakes. The U.S. Senate will hold a hearing on the NO FAKES act on Tuesday. The bipartisan proposal, led by Sens. Chris Coons, Marsha Blackburn, Amy Klobuchar, and Thom Tillis, seeks to “protect the voice and visual likeness of all individuals from unauthorized recreations from generative artificial intelligence.” Deepfakes—images or recordings that have been convincingly altered to misrepresent someone’s speech or actions—are now easier than ever to create thanks to consumer AI tools. The draft legislation would hold individuals or companies liable for producing…

Travelism | E+ | Getty Images Having a diversified portfolio means you should have some of your money in bonds. The assets can offer not not some protection against market volatility, but also generate income. Yet deciding how to construct the fixed income portion of your portfolio may seem confusing, especially after the bond rout in 2022 and continued volatility last year. In October, the 10-year Treasury yield crossed 5%. Bond yields move inversely to prices, so when yields rise, prices decline. This year, investors are closely watching the Federal Reserve to see if and when it will begin…

Following a long period of waiting, “the IPO market’s back.” That’s according to Colin Stewart, Morgan Stanley’s global head of technology equity capital markets. In an interview with CNBC’s “TechCheck” on Monday, Stewart said 10 to 15 more tech companies could go public before the end of 2024, with an even “better year” in store for 2025. “It’s been a long two and a half years, where we’ve had really nothing,” Stewart said. Recent initial public offerings have priced high and traded well, which “bodes well for the future,” he added. The lull began in 2022, when soaring inflation and…

Even in 2024, there’s no shortage of obstacles keeping women from leadership positions. In disappointing news, it turns out for many of them, the view is no rosier once they actually ascend to the top.  Of the 68 CEOs appointed in the first quarter of 2024, as tabulated by executive search firm Russell Reynolds in its quarterly index, just five were women. At that rate, global gender parity won’t arrive for nearly 90 years, they predict. (And that’s being optimistic; the World Economic Forum pegs it at 132 years.) “To achieve true gender balance at the top, we need to…
