U.S. Bank’s mobile app has near-perfect ratings from Apple and Android users, a strong endorsement of the app’s simple interface but robust capabilities. U.S. Bank credit card holders will likely find that the app does everything they need it to do, and then some, and is easy to navigate.
Features
Login and security
You can securely access the U.S. Bank mobile app with a password, fingerprint or two-factor authentication. Once logged in, you’ll find options to lock, unlock, or report a lost or missing credit card. U.S. Bank also allows account holders to give other people limited access to financial accounts. You can add and remove users at any time for free within the app.
Credit card information
Key details of your U.S. Bank credit cards, including the card number, expiration date and CVV, may be found within the app. Few other credit card apps display this information, which can be useful when you need to make a purchase but don’t have the physical credit card on hand.
Smart Assistant
Use the app’s Smart Assistant as a shortcut to get where you need to go. All you need to do is type in or say a prompt (e.g., “What’s my credit score?”), and the Assistant will spit out an answer.
View multiple U.S. Bank accounts
The mobile app lets you view and manage all of your U.S. Bank accounts, including credit cards, mortgages and other loans.
Link multiple external accounts
The U.S. Bank mobile app can connect with other financial institutions, if you have other accounts, so that you can get a more comprehensive picture of your financial health in one place. Maybe your checking account is with Capital One, and you have another credit card with Chase; link them within the U.S. Bank app to see all balances at once. After all of your accounts are synced up, you can use the money tracker feature to analyze spending habits for the past 18 months.
U.S. Bank ExtendPay Plan
Purchases of more than $100 may be put on an ExtendPay plan. Enrollment in ExtendPay may be completed in the U.S. Bank app. You’ll start by selecting the purchases you want to pay off over time, and then choose a repayment option. Note that enrolling in ExtendPay incurs a fixed monthly fee that’s based on the original loan amount and other factors.
Credit score monitoring
Many financial institutions allow their customers to check their credit scores for free, and U.S. Bank is no exception. See your most up-to-date VantageScore in the U.S. Bank app.
Cash back deals
Card-linked offers, or what U.S. Bank calls “cash-back deals,” are a feature of many credit cards today. U.S. Bank customers may access them within the app. Simply select the deals that you want by activating them. After making an eligible purchase with your U.S. Bank credit card, you’ll receive the discount as a statement credit.
Rewards and redemptions
Log in to the U.S. Bank app to check your rewards balance and to fulfill redemptions. Depending on the credit card you have, you may redeem rewards for cash back, gift cards, travel and more. In terms of travel redemptions, it pays to redeem them through U.S. Bank’s travel portal, which is accessed online or through the app. Points are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for travel, but the value increases to 1.5 cents per point if you have the U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite® Card or U.S. Bank FlexPerks Gold Credit Card.
Select U.S. Bank credit cards also allow users to redeem rewards automatically through Real-Time Rewards. After enrolling in Real-Time Rewards in the app, you’ll be able to redeem rewards for purchases of $10 and up if the amount of available rewards can cover the entire cost.
If you have a rewards credit card with categories that need to be activated, you can also do that within the U.S. Bank app.
Drawbacks
If we’re being nitpicky, U.S. Bank’s mobile app, unlike apps from other financial institutions, doesn’t list any pending payments from the home screen. To find this information, you need to select the “pay bills and transfer” option that’s listed on the main account page, then select the relevant account, which then takes you to a screen with past payment information. For meticulous record keepers, tracking credit card payments is a must, and this data is a little hard to find in U.S. Bank’s app.
Web browser vs. mobile app
The experience of U.S. Bank’s website on a desktop or mobile browser may be slightly more cluttered than in the app. When you log in on a web browser, you may find notifications advertising U.S. Bank products such as a CD or checking account. However, these notifications can be removed at the user’s will. Overall, managing a U.S. Bank credit card is just as effortless in a web browser as it is in the app.
